Description
Make crispy and flavorful Chinese orange chicken in your air fryer with this easy recipe. It’s a healthier version of the classic takeout dish.
Ingredients
- 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tbsp honey
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tsp grated ginger
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
- 1 tbsp orange zest
- 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water
Instructions
- Preheat air fryer to 400°F for 5 minutes.
- Season chicken with salt and pepper.
- Dip chicken pieces in beaten eggs, then coat with cornstarch.
- Lightly spray air fryer basket with oil.
- Arrange chicken in single layer in air fryer basket.
- Cook for 10 minutes, flip, then cook another 5-7 minutes until crispy.
- While chicken cooks, make sauce: combine orange juice, soy sauce, honey, vinegar, ginger, garlic, red pepper flakes, and orange zest in a saucepan.
- Bring sauce to simmer over medium heat.
- Stir in cornstarch slurry and cook until thickened.
- Toss cooked chicken in sauce and serve immediately.
Notes
- For extra crispiness, spray chicken lightly with oil before air frying.
- Adjust red pepper flakes to control spiciness.
- Serve with rice and steamed vegetables for a complete meal.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days.
